Lucy Quinto (Lucy Manuel Quinto de Guzman)

Lucy Quinto (Lucy Manuel Quinto de Guzman), also known as Lucy de Guzman, is a voice talent, dubbing director, and dialogue coach. She was born in Malolos, Bulacan on 7 February 1939. She is the daughter of Emilio Quinto and Alfonsa Manuel and sister of movie actor Rosa Mia and disc jockey Emilio Jr aka Charlie Brown. She is married to Carlito de Guzman, with whom she has two children. She studied accountancy at Far Eastern University, 1956-60.

She was seven when her older sister Rosa Mia, already a movie actor and director and talent on radio drama at the time, brought her to DZRH in 1946. Thus began her voice-acting career in radio soap operas in the late 1940s. Among the more memorable soap operas in which she acted were Dr. Ramon SelgaAklat ng Pag-ibig (Book of Love), Ilaw ng Tahanan (Light of the Home), and Gulong ng Palad (Wheel of Fate). Like most radio drama talents in the 1950s and 1960s, she was self-taught and grew into other roles like producer, director, and dialogue coach. From the late 1970s until the early 1980s, she produced, directed, and acted in some of the 20 Cebuano soap operas translated into Tagalog that aired on Radio Mindanao Network’s DZXL, including In Aeternum Walang Hanggan (Eternal) and Manok ni San Pedro (Saint Peter’s Chicken). In 1998, she formed her own company, Digi-8 Studios, a fully digital recording-dubbing studio.

As voice talent and director, she with her pool of voice actors dubbed numerous foreign programs into Tagalog as well as substituted their voices for those of local actors in television programs and full-length films. She supervised the dubbing of foreign animation programs, such as the anime series Sailor Moon and Transformers for Channel 5 and Inuyasha for GMA Channel 7. She worked with film directors Lino BrockaIshmael BernalPeque GallagaMarilou Diaz-Abaya, and Laurice Guillen to coach actors in voice and dialogue, including veteran actors Charito SolisNora AunorVilma SantosSharon CunetaAga MuhlachMaricel SorianoDina Bonnevie, and Herbert Bautista, and younger ones including Lea Salonga, Angel Locsin, Rudy Fernandez, Bong Revilla, Ace Vergel, Gretchen Baretto, Deither Ocampo, Jericho RosalesPiolo Pascual, and Sam Milby. Quinto also created sound effects with voices, such as the vocal sounds created by the emotions of the throng watching a miracle take place in Bernal’s Himala (Miracle) and the crowd sounds in Gallaga’s Oro Plata Mata (Gold Silver Death).
