Leicester prepared to sell £80m Chelsea and Manchester City target Welsey Fofana

Leicester City are now reportedly open to selling rumoured Manchester City target Wesley Fofana, with Chelsea set to make a bid of around £80m to sign the 21-year-old defender.

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, the Foxes have softened their stance on the French centre-back following talks over the weekend between Fofana and Leicester manager Brenden Rodgers, with the club now open to selling the youngster amid interest from Chelsea.

As per Jacobs, Chelsea are expected to make an £80m offer for the former Saint-Etienne star in the coming days which is expected to be accepted, matching the world-record fee Manchester United paid Leicester three years ago to sign Harry Maguire from the King Power Stadium side.

City had been linked with a move for Fofana earlier in the transfer window, however, the Manchester giants’ interest in the centre-back has seemingly cooled, with Pep Guardiola’s side set to not make any more moves in the market, which closes in ten days time.

Indeed, Fofana would have been perfect for the Cityzens based on his age, style of play and current ability, but with Chelsea desperate for a centre-back, the Blues now look all but certain to sign the French youngster, who is now expected to become the most expensive Premier League signing this summer.

Whilst the finances involved are astronomical, Leicester are huge winners in this deal as they now have the ability to make signings in the final days of the transfer window, yet for City, missing out on Fofana to a league rival in Chelsea is a major blow for the reigning English champions.

City could regret not going toe-to-toe with Chelsea for Fofana

City have arguably the best selection of centre-backs out of any club in England, yet there’s still a twinge of disappointment in the air that Fofana is now on the verge of joining Chelsea in a move that could guarantee the Blues a world-class defender for many years to come.

After all, Fofana is one of the best young centre-backs in world football, and City missing out on the 21-year-old is a big blow to Guardiola, who could now be about to watch the French youngster flourish in west London knowing he could have had the chance to sign the Leicester talent.
